IGT, producer of the DoubleDown play-for-fun site, has announced a new deal with Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas to offer the company’s online free-play casino for visitors to the Hard Rock’s website. This marks IGT’s first contract with a Las Vegas land-based property for the game platform. In IGT’s press release about the arrangement, the company says “IGT’s DoubleDown Casino provides players with exciting casino style game play online, with access to the full roster of games including Da Vinci Diamonds® and Cleopatra® slots, as well as multi-player poker. Other well-known and proven IGT slot games and an exhilarating new Bingo game are slated to arrive soon on the DoubleDown Casino.”
I’m glad to hear that the platform will soon feature more of the company’s proven games, a shortcoming that I noted in my recent review of Double Down casino.
An interview with IGT’s CEO Patti Hart at Casino Enterprise Management expands on the company’s plans for the future. Regarding IGT’s entry into the online play-for-fun arena, Hart says “It’s about building a game once and distributing it to as many users as possible around the globe. This really has eliminated the impediment of not having an outlet for social gamers, because social gaming with casino-style chance-based games is the fastest-growing component of social gaming today. It’s important for us to be there like it’s important for us to be in every form of gaming that’s growing rapidly.”
Although Hart talks about social gaming as if it were the end product, it seems clear that the company’s ambition is to become a central provider of online casino technology as real-money gaming expands around the globe.
